Rendering fx bug on Premiere Pro

Hello,

I have been working with Premiere Pro for over 5 years as a documentary filmmaker and editor. Unfortunately, I have been consistently encountering the same type of bug with each new version of Premiere, causing significant loss of time. Despite all the updates and new features introduced in the versions of Premiere, this issue remains unresolved. Currently, I am using version 24.2.1.

The main problem I face revolves around rendering effects, where the application appears to lose connection with its rendering files. Rendered effects randomly revert to their unrendered state on the timeline. Simply modifying a layer or viewing a clip in the edit is enough to trigger most effects to lose their rendering immediately. The timeline's green line switches to yellow or even red in areas, particularly noticeable with stabilization effects. This issue occurs consistently, and none of the usual troubleshooting steps seem to resolve it. Creating a new project or recalculating yields the same disappointing outcome, resulting in significant time loss during production.

Currently, I am working on a 90-minute film with color grading (LUT) layers, multilingual subtitles, transcription options, and various formats related to archival footage. My project is in UHD, and I have utilized the HD proxy option for performance optimization. My machine is a MacPro M1 Max with 64 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD running on Sonoma 14.3.1. My footage is stored on a 32 TB RAID 0 hard drive, while my project and renders are on an external SSD. Despite segregating the workflows to enhance performance, my machine has started struggling to handle a sequence exceeding 80 minutes. As a result, I've had to split my edit into three 30-minute parts, which adds unnecessary complexity to my workflow.

I am seeking technical solutions to address these rendering issues and wondering when we can expect a version that finally resolves these problems. Additionally, I am curious about performance solutions that avoid the need for segmented edits. While the new features in Premiere are undoubtedly useful, their effectiveness is hindered by these recurring issues. I appreciate any assistance and technical solutions you can provide.

    First, for that project, you should not be using the old stand-alone method. I'm including the documentation on the Production mode use of Premiere, which does get around a ton of performance issues with long-form/episodic projects. It's even a far better process for an independent small-project worker like me, as ALL my projects have easy access to my b-roll, audio libraries, sequence templates & et al, without the old messes created by multi-project work. 

     

    Their documentation on that is the best I think they've ever produced, and I'm linking it here. Included is not only the what/why/how of Productions mode, which is useful.

     

    But the long-form doc goes over practical usage, and includes a lot of things for general best project setup in Premiere for performance. Some of the best general information and advice on Premiere setup Adobe's ever given.
