Search bar grayed out after media cache cleanup

A few days ago I searched a fix to my grayed out search bar and found that cleaning out the media cache was not the solution. I realized I needed to do this anyway because this project is very large. As instructed by the fix I didn't mess with my computer for awhile (2 days). Now that I open the project, I see that the search bar continues to be gray. Is there another way of fixing this other than cleaning out the media cache? Any suggestions would be helpful.  Thanks!
