"Selection follows playhead" only works if I use the mouse, not when pausing playback

I utilize "selection follows playhead" constantly, especially with targeted tracks amidst multiple video layers. In PP 2022, whenever I stop playback, whatever clip the playhead happens to land on becomes selected. In PP 2023, that's not happening. The previously selected clip remains selected, even though the playhead is on an entirely different clip. The "selection follows playhead" feature only seems to work if I move the playhead somewhere with the mouse. Is this a bug? Or am I missing something?
