Question

serious memory over flow issue in premiere pro 2024 ( Windows PC)

The attached video demonstrates Premiere Pro's escalating RAM usage during editing, caused by the inefficient management of committed memory. Although clearing the media cache is often suggested as a fix, it provides only temporary relief. By default, Premiere Pro stores its cache on the C:/ drive, so clearing the cache merely delays the problem by freeing up space for the committed memory to continue filling up.

When editing in Premiere Pro, Windows transfers unused data from RAM to the committed memory space, which Premiere Pro fails to release. This data accumulates in the C:/ drive (Windows default), gradually filling available space. Eventually, you'll encounter the error message "Adobe Premiere Pro is running very low on system memory" followed by a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) or abrupt system crash.

This issue persists regardless of clip resolution or codec. Attaching metadata to the bug report is futile, as it's unrelated to the problem.

Notably, Premiere Pro 2023 appears to handle memory more efficiently. I look forward to hearing from an experienced Premiere Pro expert or would appreciate direction to relevant resources.

Hello @Amal MP,

Thanks for the reply. I have seen memory spiking in projects that have been updated across major versions. You may want to try creating a new project and importing the existing project into that new one as a test. Let me know if that helps. If so, carry on with this new project. I hope the advice helps. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Sumeet Kumar Choubey,

Thank you for your prompt response. I appreciate your assistance.

To provide more context, I'd like to share some details:

- Before opening Premiere Pro, I have approximately 30GB of free space on my C:/ drive.
- My cache and scratch disk are stored on a separate 250GB Samsung SSD.
- Interestingly, this issue isn't specific to one project; any project with sufficient data to fill the 30GB and utilize my RAM can trigger the problem.

Notably, I didn't experience this issue with Premiere Pro 2023. However, since upgrading to 2024, I've encountered difficulties. I'd love to resolve this and continue using the latest version.

Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Amal MP,

Sorry to hear about the issue. Could you please confirm the free storage space available on the C drive/cache drive you are using? Also, are you experiencing this issue while working with any specific project or all of them?

Thanks,

Sumeet
