Setting the background on a Track Matte level - How?

Here is the (very) simple process.

  1. This added to V1 level, Drag a short clip to make a sequence.
  2. Use the Type tool to add text, e.g. TESTING, this creates on V2 level, with a black background
  3. Find Track Matte effect, drag onto V1 Video, then in effects select V2 (Text layer)

The text appears on top of the video, but the video is now visible through the lettering, depending upon the letter font size. This is what I want, BUT, the text background colour is BLACK.

Can this be changed?

I’ve done this effect in other ways, but it involves more colour layers, I was hoping to change the degault black, rather than having to use several colour layers.

Thanks in advance.

Put a color matte (or whatever) on V1.

Track matte effect on clip in V2, Text on V3 and set the matte to V3.

Just to be clear: clip on V2 needs to become full screen? No text.

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for the question. I think I know what you wish to do. Try this: create the track matte effect for V1 and V2. Then, nest the clips. Move the nest onto V2. Place the new background clip on V1. I hope this addresses your issue. Let me know!

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Nope, I nested V1 and V2 one at a time and then another attempt both at the same time, is that correct?

I now see the video plainly with white text. Rather than black background with transparent text that shows the video. Can you give step by step instruction on this, I have got this wrong. Sorry.
