Simplify Sequence / Remove empty multicam audio

As an Assistant Editor, I have to make EDLs of archival footage/stills/audio used in our sequences. I’ve been exporting the sequence (from our Production) as a Premiere Project, Generate Source Clips, then deleting source clips unrelated to archival (ex. production footage and audio). I then use Simplify Sequence and Flatten all multicam sequences. However, for some reason, the multicam audio remains in the sequence, even when the multicam sequences are completely empty. Is there a way to remove all empty multicam audio clips? Or flatten multicam audio (if it’s empty, it’d flatten to nothing)?

This usually happens when multicam audio becomes unlinked from the multicam video.

When that happens, the audio can revert to a nested sequence, and nested sequences will not respond to Flatten the way true multicam clips do.

The workaround is to convert those nested sequences back into multicam clips first.

    In your sequence:

    • Go to Edit > Find

    • Set Media Type to Contains Sequence

    • Click Find All to select those clips in the timeline

    • Right-click one of the selected clips and choose Multi-Camera > Enable

    • Then choose Multi-Camera > Flatten

Once they are properly re-enabled as multicam clips, Flatten should return them to their original source clips. If the multicam audio is empty, it should collapse accordingly.

As a side note, exporting to a new project, generating source clips, and deleting unused media seems like unnecessary steps - it should not change the EDL result.
