Question

Slowness & crashing on an existing file

Hi there

I was given a file to edit by a friend, I do not use Premiere on a regular basis. The file is, I'm assuming, badly organized and this or some other issue makes it slow/buffer often and it's been crashing every 10-15 minutes or so.  Occasionally an error comes up 'Error retrieving frame 1973 from time from the file. substituting frame'. and this repeats. I'm assuming these are related to the crashes.

Any tips you can give me on how someone who's not familiar with Premiere can do sort of easily to help with this error/these problems would be helpful, thanks.

Hi @658353 - Can you try downloading the latest beta and see if that helps your issue.  we have made some performance updates in version 25.  You can find the beta in the creative cloud desktop app under the beta section.

Please post comp specs, Premiere version and build.
Also screenshots of MediaInfo info in Treeview on footage used, sequence settings.

Hi Ann, thanks.

Premiere version: 24.6.1 (build 2)

system: windows 11 pro //  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700K 3.40 GHz // 64 GB ram //

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, I downloaded MediaInfo, what do I need to use it on within the Premiere file? I have one main sequence but a lot of footage.

You said 'I was given a file to edit by a friend', but now it seems like you were given a bunch of files to edit?
