Question

"Snap in program monitor" design flawed

I don’t understand this feature. It doesn’t allow you to snap anything like it does in illustrator.
Guides dont work properly either.

Objects dont snap to halfway points
Objects and videos dont snap to each other
Guides dont snap to anything either.

Whenever I have an irregular frame size,
because I’m terrible at math, I also end up using the calculator to find the half way points when setting up my guides...because they don’t “snap” to anything like they do in illustrator.

I don’t understand guides either. In illustrator you can click on a guide and delete. Why the hell can’t you do that in premiere pro?

Hi szymon — this is expected behaviour, and it’s narrower than Illustrator’s Smart Guides: in Premiere, Snap in Program Monitor only snaps objects (titles, graphics, clips) to guides — not to other objects, videos or halfway points. Adobe’s help says an object snaps when you drag it within 2 pixels of a guide.

So it’s guides first, snap second:

    1. If the rulers aren’t visible, select the Program Monitor, then View > Show Rulers. Then View > Add Guide (or drag one out of a ruler). In the Add Guide dialog you can type the exact position — handy for a halfway point, no calculator needed.
    2. 2. Turn snapping on with View > Snap in Program Monitor, and turn it off there again when you want to move things freely.
    3. 3. To delete one guide, drag it out of the Program Monitor; to remove them all, View > Clear Guides. You can lock them with View > Lock Guides. Note guides are persistent across projects and sessions, so an old guide can still pull objects toward it.

One difference from Illustrator to keep in mind: guides themselves don’t snap to anything — you place them by dragging or by typing a position.
