software encoding by default

Hello,

Actually PP uses "hardware encoding" by default in the export settings.

I would like to have all the time "software encoding" by default in the export settings. How to set it in preferences ?

Welcome to the community! In Addition to what PaulMurphy suggested, depending on hardware & OS, you may also disable hardware accelerated encoding under Edit > Preferences > Media. Also, would you mind sharing the reason why you want to disable hardware encoding? Let us know if you are experiencing any issues with it. We're here to help.

Hi @Sumeet Kumar Choubey 

I needed to stop export with hardware encoding, because I had some problems of compression/glitches. Choosing export with "software encoding" solved the problem.

Sorry to hear about that. We can get it checked. Let us know the version of Premiere Pro, system specs (OS, CPU, GPU & RAM), & the media type (format, codec & source) with which you are getting this issue. If possible, please share a screenshot of the glitch/compression artifact that you are getting with Hardware encoding.

To consistently use Software Encoding when exporting in Adobe Premiere Pro, you can create and save a custom export preset with that setting. Here's how:

  1. Open the Export Settings: Go to File > Export > Media to open the export panel.
  2. Set Performance to Software Encoding: In the Encoding Settings section, change the Performance dropdown to Software Encoding.
  3. Save as a New Preset: Click the three dots next to the Preset dropdown and select Save Preset.
  4. Name and Save: Give your preset a name (e.g., “Software Encoding Preset”) and click OK.


This preset will now appear in your list and can be reused to maintain your preferred export settings.
