SOFTWARE GETS STUCK ON IMPORT WHEN FILE IS LARGE

I am having trouble importing a 72GB MP4 file into a Premiere Pro Project.

When I attempt to import the file, the software just sits there “importing”.

I have tried drag/drop as well as importing, and get the same result.85GB

Three days ago, I imported a 85GB mp4 file with no problem.

But today, the 72GB  mp4 file won’t go.

My Premiere Pro is up to date.

I’m on Windows 11 and it is up to date.

I have cleared my Premiere Pro media cache.

I normally work with files stored on my NAS that is connected to my computer via 10GBe ethernet.  I moved the file in question to my computer hard drive and I get the same results.

Any suggestions???

My computer specs are:

Device name  Desktop

5.5TB hard drive 5.0TB still available.

Processor        Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900KF   3.20 GHz

Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.8 GB usable)

System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    Thanks for the details! For testing purposes, please try disabling hardware accelerated decoding under Premiere Pro preferences> Media & check if it's importing the media from an internal drive. Please ensure to restart Premiere Pro after making those changes.

    I solved the problem!  

    There was someithing wrong with the video file I was tring to use.

    The file would play fine in media player, but would not import into Premiere Pro.

    I deleted the file from my NAS, and transfered a fresh copy off the SD card into the NAS and problem is solved.

    Hey Todd,

    That sounds pretty odd because your specs seem fine. Did this workflow and hardware setup work OK in previous versions? What is the source of the media file? Did it come from a camera? Which one? Does the file have a variable frame rate. Let us know. I hope we can help you.

    The file is an MP4 file recorded on a V 90 SD card using a Panasonic G9 ii. 

     

    THE SD CARD was formatted in Camera prior to the video being made. 

     

    The file is 72 GB recorded an open gate format at 24FPS (not variable frame rate)

     

    The file was transferred via a pro grade SD card reader directly to my NAS. 

     

    I have a 10GBe network connection between my computer and my NAS. 

     

    I tried importing the file from the NAS into Premier Pro like I have done several times before, and I had trouble  

     

    I then moved the file to my computer’s hard drive and the problem still persists  

     

    I verified the recording is OK by playing it through media player and plays without  issue. 

     

    I’ve done this several times before without issue, but today I’m having a struggle.

     

    Nothing has changed in my workflow, hardware, software or settings.  

     

    Any advice you may have to offer is appreciated.
