got a new saony a 7s iii.  using the basic XAVC S format but it is 10 bit 4:2:2:  Windows media is not reading files.  But i put it in Premiere and it recognizes it but the fottage was choppy. Could not determine if it was a broken new camera or a file reading problem.

kept digging. came upon transcoding. So i transcoded to Pro rez i believe and it made a .MOV file.  As a test I played it in davinci and premiere.  It played fine in davinci but is still a little chooppy and flikers in preemeire?!?  Is anyone having an issue with playing sony footage in premire? is ther a codec or an update that I am not aware of in premiere? thanks in advance.

That variation of H.264/265 is hard to playback. The new 2021 Intel CPUs with Quick Sync should be able to play it back OK if Adobe writes code for it.  A lot of people are just uing 8 bit for now. That being said if you transcoded to Pro Res Premiere Pro should be able to play Pro Res if you have a decent system but some varations of Pro Res are easier to playback than others.

Please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card. and what are the pixel dimensions and frame rate of the footage?  If you're happy with Resolve preformance, and can accept the limitations of it's editing interface (in my opinion), edit with resolve.   If you want to stick with Premiere, you might consider a proxy workflow.  My head spins when I try to get a handle on the "preview" formats or whatever they call them in resolve.  Much simpler in premiere.
