Question

Sony a7rII footage has different in/out points on different computers

I am working in PPro 2019 on a mid-2014 macbook pro, creating stringouts and rough assemblys for my lead editor. When I finish, I just airdrop my project file to her mac (trash can mac). When she opens the project, the in/out points that I set are all wrong, often trying to pull from beyond the beginning or end of the clip. We have mirrored folder structures on different hard drives. I am wondering what could be causing this? Camera is the Sony a7rII, using the AVC mp4 codec. We keep the .XML files, since I heard these are supposed to prevent problems like this, but it hasn't helped us.

Let me know if you need any more information! My first time posting.

Griffin,

Can you try importing your previous project into a new project? Let us know if that works.

Cheers,

Kevin

So I had this same problem with my sony a7sii footage.  fixed it by creating a new project and importing the old project file, rather than opening the old project file.  hope that helps!

The footage is mostly 23.976 with some 60df thrown in when the project demands it. All the footage should be constant frame rate as I understand it. The timecodes usually start at weird numbers though. For example, the first frame of a clip is "12:49:48:15". Perhaps I should change my premiere settings to "start at 00:00:00:00" and see if that changes anything.

I don't have a project I can share at the moment, I'll try to work on that next week.

Another fun and weird thing: We both work off external hard drives. Mine is a LaCie Rugged and hers is a G-Drive. When she opens my project file from my drive on her computer, it opens correct. But when she moves the project file to her hard drive and opens it, it opens with the wrong in/out points.

Delete preview files.

Make footage off line .

Delete media cache.

Reboot.

Relink.

See how that goes.

Hey Griffin!

What frame rate is the footage? Do you know if it's constant or variable?

Let me know!
