Question

Source Monitor - Audio and Video have separate In and Out points

I just updated to Premiere 26.0.1 and have noticed in the Source Monitor after I’ve selected In and Out points that if I adjust those points while in the audio of the clip it then creates separate In and Out points for the clip.  Now when I drop that clip into my timeline it does not have the same points for Video and Audio.

Can anyone tell me why?  Or at least how to disable that feature?

There are two common ways this occurs:

    • Double-clicking a J-cut or L-cut in the Timeline. This loads the trimmed clip into the Source Monitor with separate audio and video In and Out points.

    • Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (macOS) the audio or video In or Out point directly in the Source Monitor. This creates split In and Out points for audio and video.

If you are double-clicking from the timeline, use this instead:

    1. Select the clip in the Timeline.

    2. Choose Sequence > Match Frame (F).

This loads the original master clip into the Source Monitor with unified audio and video In and Out points.

Otherwise, place the clip in the Timeline first, then:

    1. Select the clip in the Timeline.

    2. Choose Sequence > Match Frame (F).

    Thank you for the reply.

As for this comment, it’s doing this split without using ALT-DRAG

    • Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (macOS) the audio or video In or Out point directly in the Source Monitor. This creates split In and Out points for audio and video.

Is there any way to not having it do this by default?  I’m not starting with a J-Cut or L-Cut, it happens from any untouched clip I bring into the source monitor from the Project Window.

I’ve never had this occur before and I would like to fix it if possible.

How are you setting your in/out points?

Is this VFR, variable frame rate? Or HFR, high frame rate from a camera that will capture higher framerate to make slo-mo from?

The clips are neither VFR or HFR.  They are 29.97.
