Question

'Source' panel stealing focus, when switching to source effect controls in 'Effects Controls' panel

Since upgrading to 23.0.0 (build 63), I've encountered a problem whenever I want to manipulate the source effects controls of a clip in the Effects Controls panel. This problem is a little difficult to describe because the word "source" gets used a lot. (In previous versions it used to be distastefully called "master".)

In the Effects Controls panel, there are two tabs. One for the clip's effects controls (where Motion and Opacity reside), to the left of that is the source (formerly master) effects controls. Now, when I click on the 'source' effects controls, the Source Panel steals focus - which then requires an additional click to manually switch back to the Effects Control Panel.

Please watch the attached video which demonstrates my issue.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but I don't like it.

How can we fix this?

This is particularly difficult, as this is how I do tons of text effects with After Effects compositions in Premiere.

PR 23.1.0. Win 10. Tested a regular mp4 clip; not AE related.

Sometimes it works as you say - that would be frustrating - sometimes "correctly."

But when it works correctly, just after I click the source tab in the Effects control panel, I see a quick flash of the source footage.

Not using source effects, so that tab is empty.

I'm not sure why you're using the Source tab for that ... Pr isn't like Ae, in Pr, for most work, one really should be working text effects via the EGP.

So it would be nice to get a better detailed explanation of your process there.

I don't think there's anything else to explain. I do my graphics work in AE setting it up for use in Pr, and then in Pr I change the text as needed. This has been my workflow for years and years now. Now, all of a sudden there's a bug adding an extra click.

But I've never used the Source tab for those things. I've never heard of anyone using the Source tab for that stuff.

Which is why I asked, it seems odd to make the extra click to open the Source settings.
