Spinning Beachball + "Application not responding" when working on edit...

Hi All!

 

Working on a project with Premiere Pro 23.4.0.

Using an iMac (specs below):

 

Project was working smoothly until a week or so ago. Last few days it has stopped a few minutes into the edit and has frozen with the beachball 😞 ...

 

Tried starting a new project on the desktop and importing the old project, deleting cache, lowering playback resolution. All helped temporarily, but the project soon began stuttering and freezing again with the beachball.

 

Any tips, tricks, solves would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi @Brian22155543kp8c,

I read your post. Thanks for all the system info, however, what kind of media are you editing with? Which camera shot the media? Have your tried launching the app with the Shift key held down and reset preferences and deleted media cache from that box? That can do a "deep cleaning" of media cache, meaning that it also deletes current media cache (which can be the cause of such issues). Finally, do let us know if you have GPU accelerated effects applied, and let us know how long your sequence is or any other info that might be missing here that can help us troubleshoot. Sorry for the frustration. Hope we can assist!

Why would a consumer know that the "length" of a sequence would be a concern in troubleshooting a spinning beachball? Meaning: Where in the literature, or on-screen warnings does it say that "WARNING: Long sequences are problematic for Premiere and the present length of your composition is becoming a concern for this version of Premiere."??? - What is the length at which I should become concerned???

If there is a length of sequence that Premiere can't handle that is 1000% Adobe's responsibility to announce and it should come with BOLD RED LETTERS across the center of the screen saying such.

It is absolutely insane that a user would find this out after years invested in a multi-million dollar production. - I need some parameters here if this is a factor.
