SRT Timecodes ignored by Premiere Pro - creates massive sections of text...

Hi,

 

I'm importing SRT files created by the YouTube algorithm back into premiere to put ontop of my timelines. I upupload a sample export of the locked edit to YouTube, get the SRT and them import that to sit ontop of the same edit. This is so I can burn in the subtitles into the export, without having to transcribe them myself.  

 

It used to work fine with the old versions of PP before captions change to these data blocks. Now I regularly encounter the following: 

 

 

Premiere makes these huge chunks of subtitle, essentially creating massive timecodes that roughly follow the text but put an essay on screen for a huge section of time. The first image shows the srt for this timeline. As you can see it's sectioned up into appropriatly digestible chunks. For some reason Premeire doens't see these and instead makes massive clumps of text. The first one being 37 seconds long! 

 

I've tried importing the srt direct from YouTube unedited, and tried making some sligh amends to it,s aving in text edit and then importing. Same thing. 

 

Has anyone seen this and what is going on?

    I just tried anothe sequence I'm working on and got similar results. It's quite mad tbh. 

     

    Here's this example. The srt file shows the break in timecodes according to the lines being spoken. All looks clear and fine to me and as an srt file should. 

     

     

     

     

     

    But when I import this srt into Premiere and place the file onto the same sequence it was created from I get this...

    If you look at subtitle 1 -00:00:02:03 - 00:04:07:05 Premiere has made the first subtitle clip over 4 minutes in length. One enormous chunk of text on screen in one massive block. How on earth is this any use for subtitling. Yes, I have the text and yes it's in order but this is useless. It's completely failed to read any of the timecodes from the above srt file. 

     

    Ironically it's made the following subtitle timecodes like this...

     

    see 2 and 3 are just 'doing' and 'ha'. This time it's just taken a single word! 

     

    Something is clearly not working here and I need to address it asap. Does anyone have an suggestions. Googling these days is impossible as you just get pages of influencers with the most popular 'how to' videos. 

     

    Anyone?
