Stereo to Mono mid edit

Hi All

 

I can't believe Premiere doesn't create TWO tracks when dragging it in the timeline.

I have an audio track that recorded boom plus lav mic on set... when I drag the audio clip in the timeline it makes one track with the boom _ lav mixed into one. This is obv. no good. I know how to make the stereo file mono, having both tracks in the timeline, but the issue is I've alreadt started editing quite a bit...

If I change the audio from stereo to mono now, it won't affect anything in my edit. I don't want to start over, so is there a way to fix this and get the audio files seperated and to be mono tracks?

    As @Ann Bens mentioned, you cannot change the audio at this point with a magic button. But with a combination of a few shortcuts, it shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes to change all the audio clips into what you want.

     

    1 - Modify your clip's audio channels as desired.

    2 - Go to Edit > Preferences > Timeline, make sure to check the "Set focus on timeline after overwrite".

    3 - On your timeline, select only the track containing the audio you want to change.

    4 - Move the playhead to the first frame of the first clip.

    5 - "F" (match frame) to reveal the audio file in the source monitor with the "new" audio channels and with the in/out points already set.

    6 - "." to overwrite the clip with the new one.

    7 - The playhead will automatically move to the next cut, and then repeat "F", "." till you reach the end of your timeline.

      for your second step, I don't see preferences anywhere!

      You cannot change audio that is already inserted into the timeline.

      Modify all your audio in the project window.

      Select clip in the timeline, hit F and drag from Source Monitor into timeline.
