Still Picture Quality when paused vs playing

I am doing a multimedia project with audio and still photos at 16x9 and 23.976 FPS. When I play the project, the picture quality significantly decreases, but returns to the normal high quality when I pause it. Is there a way to fix the low quality of the photos while playing the project? Thanks!!!!
