When you work with video and photos, and have a lot to storage. How do you organise your work?
I work on an iMac 2017 Big Sur.
Do you store everything on an externe HD and work from there?

How do you then take backup of your work?

I have:

Internal SSD for OS.

Internal SSD for active Media and Project files

Internal SSD for Cache and Exports

Internal HDD for manual and autosave backups

External HDDs (2 on site and 1 off site for each archive volume) for archives and media.  I copy media from these dives to the SSD when I need them.  I've got a fortune invested in external drives, as I don't fully trust Cloud backups.

Project backups:

  • Save As... and give the project a version number.
  • Carbonite
  • Time Machine on external HD

Storage:

  • I have a 4TB internal SSD on my MacBook Pro that I use for my current projects.
  • I have a 5TB external spinning HD for Time Machine.
  • I have 8 TB of spinning HD space in a JBOD that stores old projects, old assets and assets not yet in use. I move data and assets on and off the JBOD to my internal SSD as necessary.
