Strange graphical glitch with captions?

I was working on a video with captions on an old Windows system, using Premiere 2015. I was having problems rendering it so I switched to a newer system and transferred my project over to open with the latest version of Premiere. However, I think something has gone wrong with the transferring process and now all of my captions aren't right. The caption edit window looks the same, but the captions themselves are in the wrong place and each character is separated by periods? See attached screenshot. I'm running Windows 7 with the latest version of Adobe Premiere. Is there anything I can do to return my captions to their former glory?
