Subtitles automatic transcription is ultra nice, but there`s some pain for the gainz.

First i have to say, this tool is amazing and speeds up stuff a lot. so i´m really thankful for that.

but i´ve cam across some "issues" in the process.

The Project: i have 4 interviews "cut" together in a comp (4 clips, each around 15 min.) all together about 45 minutes long. I need the Text as subtitle, but also for a printed version of the project-documentation. And i need to correct a lot, cause, audioquality....
After AS buildt the subtitles,  i then corrected them in in the subtitle-panel and quickly realised they where
not corrected in the transcript-panel. so i deleted the subtitles and started correcting in the transcript-panel.

which works like a charm with the corresponding playhead always jumps into place.

But... after minute 20 this process became slower and slower and the jumping chaos of the transcript-panel unfolding before my eyes i unnerving. (double klick on the text to work on it -it jumps up and down for 2-3sek / klick outside to use space as play-button - it jumps up and down again.)

So i guess it is recommended to use shorter videos/comps?

Now i feel uncertain. If i delete some of the clips out of the comp and build a comp for each clip, do i have to build the transkripts again, or are they somehow attached / atacheable to the clips (like audio for instance)?

aaaaand...:

i have to say, the two symbols/buttons for cuttin or joining segments of text, make me klick on the wrong one a lot of the time. This will fade whe i got in my hours, i´m sure, but maybe there is a UI-Designer somewhere, who wants to hear this feedback.

.

But besides of these questions, its still the best free transcription tool i know .

There a feature requests to make the process of editing transcript text easier. Right now, the "export transcript" option does not allow for editing the transcript once exported. And if you export the transcript as text, there is no option to import it as a transcript.

And the idea of connecting transcript to clips is also popular.

To stop the transcript from jumping around, click the 3 dots and pick "Disable auto-scrolling."

thanks for your reply.

as for feature requests i recently learned that adobe reorganised these Forums and you should you this one, with the right flags?

for the othe ones at https://adobe-video.uservoice.com i would have to log in to another platform with my adobe ID?

Yes, i can see why this is popular, and complicated at the same time. (i can imagine a dialogue scene with  lots of people, speaking overlapping, being transcribed in the media-bin, and having subtitle-tracks baked at them, would make a mess in the Monitor and also layermess of subtitle tracks like in  the video or audio space of the timeline-window.

but. luckily its not my job to figure this out 😄

i can just dream aloud.

and thanks for that Disable auto scrolling -tip, but it did not changed much.

i still cdoublelick, ... wait, 1-3 sec...

a light grey frame shows up around the text, but the last row (when tehre is more than 2) is half outside the frame .... wait, ...

the whole text is highlighted blue, wait,1-3 sec. ...

the clicked word is marked blue . wait...

and then the frame around the textblock turns blue and i can type in corrections.

it gets slower and slower to save these corrections too.

When i pause the process, minimize Premiere or go to Chrome for instance for a minute. it gets quicker, but only for about a few steps and then i`m back to patience-training

and i think i have a pretty capeable machine.

i should have split up the comps into smaller bits.  retranscripting them would have been way quicker i guess.

btw. the exported *.txt is now 43 kb

UserVoice, the new feature request/bug report system, is directly monitored by the software engineers. It replaced the old version of the feature/bug system. (The forum changes were actually a different issue.) In my opinion, all bugs and feature requests should go there (the engineers will see them whether they ask questions or not) AND links to them posted here - so other users can upvote them and comment. The UserVoice system is VERY hard to search, and VERY old requests still appear.

Absolutely! I love it.

I misunderstood the "jumping" issue. What you are describing is the slowness/delays that appear to be associated with larger caption projects. A main work around is to avoid the Text Panel, which is not possible when  you are working in the transcript!
