Question

Sudden strange behavior in Premier

The problems are with editing on the timeline and they suddenly started occurring today on all my projects, in every workspace, on all my different drives so it seems to be systemic, There are too many problems and too difficult to easily describe here, but here's what I've done to try solving them.

Looking for additional possible remedies.

1. Re-started Premier (3x)

2. Re-booted computer (3x)

3. Uninstalled and re-installed Premier including replacing preferences (2x)

4. Did a virus scan

5. Scanned for corrupt files (2x)

6. Reset the keyboard shortcuts to the default (2x)

7. Tried using a different mouse

8. Switched from my NVIDIA card to default OSX graphics driver

9. Pulled my hair out in large clumps.

The problems seem (thankfully) confined to Premier and don't occur in After Effects ...at least not yet!  Plz help if anyone knows additional steps I can take!  Thanks!

Or rolling back the NVIDIA driver if it auto-updated overnight.  I see what you mean, Weird stuff.  Thanks for listing a few of the issues.  I haven't experienced any of these problems but I am OSX High Sierra; 10.13.6.

We cannot diagnose the problem without some clue to the symptoms.  You have certainly tried a number of things but you haven't given any indication of what strange behaviours you are facing.  Did you update to OSX Mojave overnight?

Thanks for getting back to me!  No, haven’t updated OS X.  Running 10.11.6  Everything else is stable.

Hard to describe the behaviors but here goes:

    1. When I try to marque something it always drags uncontrollably to the right, and ONLY to the right.  I can’t marque just one object.

    2. When I use any shortcut key I get the function, but not the visual indicator for the tool.  Example: when I press “A”  or “Shift + A” I get the selection function but not the double arrows.  Same for “V”, “B”, etc.

    3. When I move my Timeline display to my primary monitor from my larger secondary monitor the strange behaviors disappear.  That leads me to think it might be a screwy graphics card.

One thing I haven’t tried yet is re-installing my NVIDIA driver.  I’ll try that next & let you know what happens.

    Thanks again!
