suddenly mouse selection of multiple keyframes in effect controls stopped working

I have been using Premiere Pro for about a month. Love it and am learning lots.

 

I've upgraded to version 22. Everything was fine until suddenly dragging the mouse in the effects control panel stopped working to select keyframes. I closed and restarted program...still won't work. Windows 10 Home, lots of memory/disk space/etc.

that seems like a lot to fix this tiny problem?

btw, the problem persisted after restarting system

I choose "reset to saved workspace" in the Editing workspace menu. That fixed the problem.
