Question

Sync by timecode in timeline

Hi folks,

I'm not sure if I'm just blind, but neither Google nor the help-section can tell me where to find this very basic function.

We recorded two cameras with Genlock. Both have way over 200 clips. There is no continuously recorded timecode-source (like an audio recorder).

Now all I want to do is create a timeline where two cameras (or even one, I can copy them together) are on the right spots of the timeline regarding timecode. On TWO tracks.

What I've tried:

- Synchronize clips: greyed out

- Multicam: gives me hundreds of tracks, a scrolling nightmare

- New Timeline from Clip: not synced

In some discussions Sync'n'link is recommended, but 200$ for a basic functionality...?

What have I missed?

Thanks in advance & kind regards

Tim

What you want can't currently be done using Premiere Pro alone.

PluralEyes can do the job using audio, I don't know if it can do the job using Timecode.

Ideally, one should allow all cameras to run continuously for any type of multicamera editing.  Doing so, this would have been very simple.

Not in front of the app right now, but I think this should work

Put your clips in a sequence - cam 1 on track 1, cam 2 on track 2

Select all the clips in the sequence

In the Clip menu select Synchronize, and there should be a Timecode option

For this to work without separate audio, you have to put them in a timeline first

You may want to look at

    https://www.tentaclesync.com

their stuff seems really well designed and they have an app for syncing that will take just about anything and sync it.

    Hi brian,

    thanks for your reply.

I had both cams on separate tracks before, but the Synchronize-feature is greyed out and can't be selected.

I've tried Tentaclesync studio too, it recognises the timecode in the file but it's not properly synced in the exported XML.

If there's no easy solution, I might dive deeper into this app and figure out what went wrong.

    Any other solutions?

    Regards

    Tim

Try selecting different groups of clips - I seem to remember that I would have the greyed out problem as well, but I could get it back by selecting groups. Sometimes it would be grey, then I would add a few and it would be available
