Syncing Separetely Recorded Audio to Video Clips in Sequence

I am editing a project in which the master audio for interviews was recorded by a professional sound recordist. Some of the rough-cuts of the interview were edited by a previous editor in a sequence using audio that was fed into the camera for time code purposes (it sounds okay, which is probably why he missed this). Can anyone suggest an easier way for me to easily sync the separately recorded master audio tracks to the clips on the timeline? Thank you for your help in advance.

To sync separately recorded audio with edited video clips in your sequence, you can use multi-camera source sequences and replace the clips in your rough cut. Here’s how:

Step 1: Create Multi-camera Source Sequences

  • Go to Clip > Create Multi-camera Source Sequence to sync the video and audio.
  • Ensure each multi-camera source sequence starts at the same point as the corresponding video clip.
  • To adjust the start point, load the multi-camera source sequence in the Timeline by holding Cmd (Mac) / Ctrl (Windows) and double-clicking it in the Project panel. Make any necessary adjustments there.

Step 2: Replace the Original Clips with the Multi-camera Source Sequences

  • Hold down Shift + Alt (Windows) / Shift + Option (Mac) and drag the multi-camera source sequence onto the corresponding clip in the rough cut timeline.
  • This will replace the clip while retaining the same in/out points.
  • Repeat this process for each clip in your timeline.

Hi Elayne34013650f5z5,

Interesting dilemma you have here. There may not be an easy, automated solution but let me think on it. How many interview clips are we talking about (that have already been edited into the rough cuts)?
