Question

Syncing several video clips with ONE master Audio file

I'm really surprised I even have to post a question about this since I thought it would be very straightforward since this is something a lot of people have to do all the time.

I recorded a live show yesterday and had one audio recorded setup the entire length of the show, We then had 2-3 different cameras taking additional footage throughout the show. In my Adobe Premiere when I highlight all the clips I don't have the MERGE function for some reason, and when I import them into the sequence I can only sync them 2 at a time. Even more annoying - When I sync the master audio track with one of the video clips, the audio track is always the one that relocates to be where the video file is! This is extremely annoying. Why can't you tell Adobe which clip moves when syncing, at least that way I can sync all the video clips to the master audio file one at a time.

Any help would be appreciated.

I usually use PluralEyes from Red Giant Software to sync up multiple camera angles, although they do need some form of audio track to make it work.

For the best post work flow, always have all cameras running for the full duration of a multicam event.  Choose cameras that will not break up long clips into multiple files.

This is a terrible answer. Obviously in a perfect world we can run all the cameras to the duration of the show but we're working with GoPRos that overheat, the show had a 30 minute break in the middle where the audio recorded was left on and the video cameras were turned off, and we're also trying to use videos taken from phone cameras sporadically throughout the show.

Creating a "multi camera sequence" - which can only be when the clips are put in a folder by the way, was not helpful at all.

This is extremely stupid and the only person to blame here is the Adobe programmers who really messed up with this tool which can obviously easily do what I expect it to do (since it has no problem doing it one clip at a time). The developers stupidly left out the most obvious option the user should have had of being able to choose which clip syncs to which clips (which of the clips is the one that actually gets moved) as well as being able to choose which clip is the "master clip" to which the other clips sync to.

Now I'm sad I didn't spend my time learning another program.

not sure what you're missing, but indeed multicam is the way to do this. I do it almost every day (with concert footage - and often the cameras stopped and started). as long as you have one continuous audio for the whole thing, and audio on each camera file, it's easy. do what meg the dog illustrates, and set it up to make the sequence from audio. just look up how to do multicam for more details.

OH. Sorry, I don't know how that works. I assume you got some recording (master) and then each camera is also recording sound with internal mic or something, and that's how you match it up ? I have no clue. Sorry.

Maybe you can do it manually using a single sequence for each camera and then join them all together in a final sequence for starting your edit ??  I have no clue.

That's not merge ... that's multicam.

Select all media in a bin, right-click select multicam, then select the appropriate settings.

did you jam the slate and cameras with timecode ?

No timecode, I'm trying to sync via AUDIO. I know that's possible because when I sync the master audio track to one of the video clips it works perfectly each time. I just can't sync to ALL of them. or even 2/3 of them.

Right clicking the files in the bin does not give a MULTICAM option.

Do you have multiple clips selected in the Program Panel before you right-click on any one of the selected clips and choose Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence . . .? Doing so will open a panel where you can choose your synchronization options:
