Syncing workflow

Hi

I'm working on a drama with just a camera that needs syncing and I was wondering what would be the best way to join the shots with their new audio, is it bettter to merge them, to create multicam shots (even if they are not shot in multicam) or just link them together in the timeline.

Couple of consideractions if it's relevant: We will go to grade and sound post once the offline edit is finished and part of the edit will be split screen.

Creating a multicam sequence using timecode is the most efficient and reliable workflow. In the Create Multicamera Source Sequence window, make sure to check "Create Single Multicam Source Sequence" if you want to combine all clips into one multicam source.

Important: Avoid using Merge Clips. It’s an outdated method that strips away crucial metadata and doesn’t translate well when exporting to formats like AAF.

If you're planning to share multicam edits for grading via XML, remember to flatten your multicam sequences first, as XML exports do not retain multicam structure.

OK will if you have TimeCode even better

If you only have a single Camera source how are you planning to create a multicam edit though?.

If it's all from same source with Timecode then multicam should retain that MetaData as far as I am aware.

@PaulMurphy may be able to comment further on this one as I have only down Audio Sync Multicam myself

at this stage I'm half way syncing all the clips in the timeline, but I was wondering what's the best way to proceed, as I'm not used to working in drama, thanks

First question, did the single camera have any audio captured by that device when you were filming?.

Also explain how the 'new audio' was captured - at the same time as filming?

If so, in Multicam you can sync the clips with the new audio through Audio Synchronisation, assuming capture in camera is reasonable quality just for syncing

The single camera did record audio and also it has the same TC as the audio to sync with (it's dialogue). If I create multicam clips, will all the metadata prevail -so it won't cause us any issues when going to to grade and sound post?

Also, another thing to add is that the new audio contains several tracks (for the different mics and boom), so I need to keep them all and the new synced clips cannot result in just having a mono single track.
