Team Project - Having to remap media one file at a time

Hi

I'm working on a Team Project and have now only realised the importance of using the Media Management tool and mapping. I'm trying to remap all my clips so that they don't come offline when someone else does an update in the project. But it seems I can only remap one clip at a time (?!). Am I not able to choose one clip in a folder and all the others follow suite?

Might it have something to do with the fact that I am just editing with attached proxies and no full res media as I'm working remotely?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm interest to see what's going wrong on your end and will follow up via email.

generally, it shouldn't make a difference whether you re-link proxies or full res media via the 'Media Management' dialog.
You can import the proxies as master clips and later on use the 'Reconnect Full Res media...' option.

It might help to keep following in mind:
- Ideally one collaborator imports the master clips and attaches the proxies, other collaborators can then create a media mapping to the master clips and/or the proxies
- It helps if each collaborator maintains the same structure for the files on disk!
- Avoid 'Make offline' as this will impact every collaborator

Media management in TP's is not exactly the same as 'normal' stuff, although it's not as completely different as it was five years ago.

But still, if you don't do it correctly according to the way it's set to work, you can not only screw up your own but other's linkings also.

Thanks for the reply.

I've red the section on Media Management online. Basically it says use Link Media if something goes offline, but I've been using attach proxies because further down the line we will use Link Media to attach the high res footage. And if we use Media Management the documentation does suggest having to do each file one by one. So if I download new proxies I've been sent to link to the offline files created by the Edit Assistnat in the Team Project, I have to remap one file at a time in the Media Management tool?

That gets into the weeds far enough I hope a staffer will chime in.

The 'normal' thing is for the originals to be added, then proxies either added (if camera produced) or created by Premiere. Working starting from proxies, going to originals later, is a different process.

I wonder if the old method of offlining to relink would be the better process here ... if everyone has the proxies, using them as the originals, expecting to select all/offline, then relink to the actual originals.

I do know that for some teams, the 'owner' has the originals, everyone else the proxies. I haven't personally worked that way in 5-6 years, so I'm not comfortable commenting on how to do it. We once upon a time did that successfully though.

For the last four years, we've used the Productions mode via LucicLInk for all 'team' remorte work, so my use of TP is kind of ancient at this time.
