Teams Projects and Media Storage

I am reaching out to any Premiere Pro Teams users.

My team has three people, three computers,  and a local drive for each computer.  For 8 months we've been fine. Working all three on the same projects each with a local copy of the media.  We would add media and add it to all local drives.  We would use the media manager tool to link it locally once. No problem adding new media or a song or an After Effects render.  Recently when anyone publishes changes, most but not all of the media is also being grouped into the "publish" window.  Nothing about the media has changed.  Then when a teammate gets the update all of their media goes offline.  I learned the file path to most but not all of  the media is being included in the publish/update process.  Then when the teammate publishes and I update, my media goes offline and I have to relink.  We are boucning around publishing our local media paths and knocking the updating system's media offline everytime.  It's a never ending cycle.  Is this happening for anyone else using teams and local storage?
Adobe esclated my case to a teir 2 group to troubleshoot why this is happening.  They said this was the way it's intended to work for local storage users.  They said I need to use the media management tool in the team project setting of every computer to remap every clip one at a time to fix this.  Additionally, they said this is the correct step for each team member when they join a new team project.  Is this correct? Is this what every team user with a local drive is doing?  And we got lucky for 8 months?

I have this issue too- where can I find reference to best practice for linking media in a Team Project where each invitee may have the same media files under different paths so their updates don't force everyone to relink every time?

Thanks!

Best practice (and mission critical) is to keep every piece of media matching and up to date.   Keep the hard drives, folder structures, and media identical.  It's almost a second job but stay committed to doing this.

What I've learned is that we don't use the traditional media browser to relink media.  There is a seperate place to relink media for teams projects so that the file paths can be different.  From the menu bar edit>Team Project>Media Management.  From this menu you can assign local media mapping for media in differnet places.

Addition:  Whenever something appears offline come to this menu.  It will be listed under "Offline: Missing Media Mapping"  And relink here.  Might be one at a time, might be able to do groups but this is how to have different media maps.    Using the media browser will send you in circles.

The way Team Projects works ... is the first person to add media uses the 'standard' add media process, but all other users then link to that media within the Team Projects media browser process.

If you've been doing what it sounds like, and it's worked, wow, you have been lucky! I've done TP for years, and every time someone linked to media already in the project by the 'normal' method, it fouled up everyone else's projects.

I've actually written articles about that a couple years back. Though they've changed the process and simplified it a lot since then.

But yea, there is a definite Team Projects process for adding media.

Thank you for this. Our media has been relinking automatically at the first update on each computer.

After my team members have accepted the invite, their next step has been to "update."  At that first update everything in my project appears in their project and the media has linked automatically.  When we add a music track or VO recording or anything in most instances Premiere has found it on it's own.  If not, we use the common link meda tool;  And yeah no issues for 8 months.

The fact that our media has linked automatically everytime lead me to beleive there was nothing special to do.

You're saying we should have been and need to use the team project media management option for all media?   Since our media is linking automatically, do we need to unlink it? and relink again with the team project media manager?  Can you share any of your articlies on the teams media management process?

I can't believe we've been doing this successfully wrong for so long.  I'm talking through a 26TB documentary with over 70.000 clips successful.

Thanks again for your time,

Craig

They've been modifying the linking process so it is closer to "normal" stand alone project practice. It's closer, but not necessarily identical.

The staffers help with that on the Team Projects forum. I used to move any TP questions "over there" ... but since they removed me from Moderator status,  can't do that anymore.
