Telecined rushes on Prores 4444XQ failing to export /create proxies

Hi,

I have two ProRes 4444 XQ files (4300 × 2540) that were created from a telecine transfer. The files are very large: one is 680 GB and the other is 110 GB.

I'm having trouble working with both of them. I've tried creating proxies in Premiere, but the proxy generation fails every time. I've also tried exporting the files directly from Premiere. I eventually managed to export the smaller clip, but the larger one consistently fails.

I haven't encountered this issue before with ProRes 4444 XQ media. Has anyone experienced something similar or can suggest a workaround? I need to generate proxies in order to continue editing.

Thanks in advance.

Could you share where your media files are stored — local drive, NAS, or external? If they're local, it's possible proxy creation is competing for disk space with Premiere's temp files, especially with large source files, and filling up the drive in the process.

Also, which proxy preset are you using?

If you're able to reproduce the issue, it would help to capture an Activity Monitor sample file while the proxy creation is in progress on the large file and share it here.

At an external drive with plenty of space. I was choosing ProRes Proxy half size. I’ve now done it through Davinci. no idea why it was causing me problems. Thanks

I have seen others with issues with 4444 XQ files, so you’re not alone. Not that everyone has the issues but it does happen. Both coming into Premiere and at times exporting out in that format.

@Ron Rigler do you or any other staffers have suggestions or questions?
