Text Based Editing Not Working for me no matter what I try

I'm using Premiere Pro version 25.2.

 

I need to edit a 13 minute talking head video.

There's only one mp4 file consisting of one video and audio clip linked together.

 

I transcribed the audio and sequence. 

Automatic in/out points are selected. 

I tried doing it with "follow active monitor" selected and also without that option selected.

 

I re transcribed the clip and sequence twice already.

I restarted my laptop twice already.

I restarted premiere pro twice already.

If I remove pauses, then it correctly edits the clips on the timeline.

But if I delete words from the transcript, those changes are not selected in the timeline.

 

Toggle track is on for the audio clip that I'm trying to edit for.

 

Can someone please tell me why my text based editing is not working???

I don't have the time to cut out all of the mistakes manually in all of my talking head videos!

@deep_0805 I'm sorry – that sounds frustrating. It sounds like you've done everything right so far, and you're correct that since you're able to filter by Pauses and then remove them all, you are set up for Text-Based editing.

 

When you delete words from the transcript, how are you doing it? I'm wondering if maybe what you're doing is double-clicking into the transcript box, where you can then edit it and type new things? If so, that would explain it. Instead of doing that, just do a single click and drag across the text to highlight it. As you do that you should see the In/Out points in the sequence update to match your selection range. Then hit Delete, or use the Lift/Extract buttons at the top of the transcript.

Very sorry for the delayed reply.

I have managed to get the text based editing to work.

 

It seems like you were right, I was double clicking in that section, rather than just clicking once.

 

But I have one more problem now:

Text based editing still does not work efficiently for me. The process runs slowly and it takes a few second delay and "lag" for each edit to be completed.

 

I have an Acer laptop which has 8GB of RAM. 

I know that this is the minimum recommended amount to run Adobe Premiere Pro, but that 16GB is the recommended amount for the program to run efficiently.

 

Do you have any tips or suggestions for how I can improve the speed and functionality of the premiere pro software on my current laptop?

I will be buying a new laptop when I have the budget for it, but that might not be for another 4 to 8 months.

@deep_0805 I'm glad that was the issue and you were able to get working! The best way to tell if RAM is the issue is to load up your typical project, work for a little bit, and then open up Task Manager on your Windows system and look at how much Memory is being used by Premiere Pro. If your system has basically all the memory used and none free, then it means probably RAM is the reason or at least part of the reason it's not feeling responsive while you work.
