Question

Text randomly doesn't update after editing transcript

I've been having a few issues with the transcription engine. Namely, I'll correct a word at the beginning of a paragraph, click out and the change won't "stick" - the engine will do one of two things. Revert to the previous text or delete the word altogether and leave the three dots in brackets (...) for a pause. I have seen it happen in other parts of the paragraph, but less frequently. The behaviour is you see teh screen flash to the previous words (whihc it does even when it does update) but then never go to teh edited version.

This is a minor but a gotcha bug because you have to carefully watch the screen to ensure that it doesn't happen or you might think you've updated something, only for it to go to the client unchaged. (Don't ask me how I know that)

UPDATE: It seems that it only happens when I hit backspace to do a ripple delete, but it doesn't always happen.

Noob here and I am currently having this problem. My recordings are 30-45 minutes long and I edit the transcript in the text pane. Every once in a while, the edits I make in the transcript do not stick - the text goes back to the original as soon as I exit the edit mode. Closing the project and reopening it does not fix the issue. The only fix I've found is closing/reopening the app. I haven't figured out what it takes to reproduce the problem; seems to be random. Thanks.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: I'm not sure if this helps, but my Help/About screen is blank. I installed it on another station and it's 25.0.0 build 61
  • Operating system - Windows 11 Pro 23H2
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900 CPU @ 3.10GHz

    • GPU: Name Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630

    • GPU driver: Intel 27.20.100.8783
    • RAM: 64.0 GB

    • Hard Drive: 930.27 GB (system), 2.73 TB (data)

  • Video format: mp4 file from Riverside.fm
  • Workflow details: Not sure what this means. I made a sequence and editing the transcript there.
  • Steps to reproduce - (Very important!): Wish I could tell you. Seems random.
  • Expected result - Transcript should remember the text I typed.
  • Actual result -  Transcript reverts to original text.

Another quick update:

I've just had this happen again on a totally different project. This project was created in 24.3.0, is nothing to do with the other project, and uses mp4s generated in AE - it's an animation project.

I had edited 5 or 6 of the transcription sections fine, but then it stopped letting me double click to edit. I clicked the pencil icon to edit the text, and it would let me amend the text, but as soon as I clicked away, they'd revert - as before.

I saved the project and opened and converted it to version 25.0.0, and hey presto, I could edit Transcript text... for a couple of minutes... until exactly the same bug happened again.

This time it's slightly different, though. It seems that only one of the generated transcripts is affected - I can edit the others. For this one, it seems to have replicated a whole paragraph of the transcript, so it's repeated twice. Obviously, I don't want that. But it won't let me delete the repetition - it just reverts whatever I do to its generated transcript. But only on that transcription - I can edit the others.

I have the same problem. Not doing anything out of the ordinary as far as I know. I'm macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 and Premiere Pro v 24.6.1 (Build 2).

Steve,

MediaInfo is a popular app that gives a lot of info about files. This download link has all the platform options:

https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

The "tree view" is the view that most often gives us the info we're looking for. Click "View" and pick "tree." lol.

Thanks for continuing to respond.

To throw a spanner in the works, I'm not using multicam. Just a normal sequence.

The footage is from the client - so not sure what kind of camera they're using. Not hi-spec. Not sure what a mediainfo from the tree view means, but this is the properties of one of the clips:

Hi @JOHN MONDO, and @steveignite,

What kind of source footage are you working with? Can you do a MediaInfo screenshot of the tree view?

Thanks,
Kevin
