The Limiter within Dynamics Effect is -3db under what I set it to when nested in another timeline

Hey all,

 

I've been encountering a strange phenomena when using the limiter funciton within the dynamics effect. Whatever I set the limiter to in a certain sequence: when I nest that sequence in another sequence, it ends up being -3db under what it's set to in the original sequence. For example, if I want to nest a whole interview so I can easily make sweeping color or sound adjustments later on, if I adjust the audio so it reads as a -6db peak amplitude in the original sequence, it will become a -9db peak amplitude once it is nested into another sequence.

 

I checked the the clip and track mixers and they're all defaulted to 0db adjustments.

 

Does anyone understand what is happening? Obviously, it's an easy fix by just gaining up the nested sequence, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it's happening. For my mental sanity, if you know what's going on please let me know. 😂

The Pan Law doesn’t strictly refer to panning left or right in Premiere Pro, it can also apply when a mono signal is converted to stereo or vice versa. In your case, you’ve nested a mono sequence within a stereo sequence, which explains why the volume is now 3 dB lower.

In these situations, it’s common to compensate by increasing the Mix track level by 3 dB to restore the original perceived volume.

This is helpful. I went back and looked at my sequence settings and source footage:

 

Source Footage: Multiple Mono Tracks (Sony FX6)

Full Raw Interview Sequence: Mono

Deliverable Sequence: Stereo

 

Maybe nesting mono senquences into stereo ones causes the -3db effect even though no tracks are panned?
