Question

The new "feature" in premiere where the slider doesn't drag is awful

The most recent update of Premiere has a new feature where when you pull the sliders (i.e. scale from 50 to 100) it isn't immediately responsive, you have to move it significantly before it responds and then it seems to respond with the total amount you've dragged it. It's inconvenient and has me constantly fighting against the slider numbers. Horribly inconvenient and irritating to say the very least....

It doesn't happen for most users, just for some ... special ones, perhaps? ... trying to be a slight bit of dry humor there.

If you're getting this, it's a pain no question. Most of us aren't. And some things have 'fixed' such issues for example, changing "default audio input" to None, or dumping all cache files. Or trashing prefs.

But ... though most with such things find after trying one or more of the above, Premiere is back to normal. Some can do a standard troubleshooting pass, and still have this gunk.

And at that point, it does need complaints posted here with specific details of systems, media, and effects workflow points.

Which are always needed to replicate and fix specific bugs.

This actually is a bug that was introduced in early 2021 and still has not been fixed. It is directly related to how Premiere Pro works with Windows Mouse Settings. If you go into "Mouse Settings", and then  "Additional Mouse Settings", and then to the "Pointer Options" tab, you'll find the Pointer Speed option. Anything below 7 will result in this bug.

The major problem with this is that many people don't want their mouse speed that high. I have mine set to 3, and it's been that way since 1998, and I don't really feel like fighting against 26 years of muscle memory just because Adobe can't fix a simple bug that it has been aware of for almost 4 years now.

That is an intriguing sleuthing ... because I've always had my mouse set fairly low, and yet have never had this issue through several desktops and laptops. At least seven different Windows computers.

So ... why does it do this on some Windows rigs set to low mouse movement, and not others? It is probably some combination of settings in Windows or intereaction between Windows settings and Premiere then.

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean install of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

wondering whether all the computers are connected via a network?  If so, can you take a computer offline (may require talking sternly to your IT person) and see if the problem persists?    Also, could be something installed on all the office computers (again talk to your IT person)...  One basic troubleshooting tool is to create a new user/account (again, talk to that IT person) and see if the problem persists.
