The problem with the proxy project

Dear colleagues!  I have problem with the proxy project.

Large project: 4 600 source files (533 GB) of different formats (.mov and .mp4.  cameras: Mark III, GoPro. DJI Phantom 3, Sony 100 fps).

Most files are short: 10-30 seconds

I wanted to make a proxy project (to work on a laptop, at the countryside 🙂

Overnight (8 hours) the proxy converted 180 files from 4600.

I Tried 2 different formats, tried it on another computer - the result is about the same.

Computer: w8.1 64, i7-3770 3.9 GHz, 16GB, Nvidia GTX 460

is it normal, such a long conversion?

And it converts in a strange way (I watched) The file is converted for a few seconds (see the preview) and then freezes for a couple of minutes, nothing happens, then quickly converts the next file and again "thinks" for a minute or two

I estimated that the project will be created about a week and abandoned this idea.

And here within 2 weeks, I'm sitting in a stuffy city, instead of working on the beach in the village. Help please!

What are your ingest settings? Because of all your different formats, you may want to customize your ingest preset for every different format. Often times Match Source doesn't work as expected.

    thanks for the answer.

I tried 2 different ingest settings (the default ones) and one "third-party", which was suggested to me by a friend- editor (he constantly works with a proxy).

The result is the same. I guess the problem is so: Premiere has been "tied" the converted file to the project for a long time.

And one more thought: (long time ago) I noticed such strangeness of behavior Media Encoder: if you try to download many files at once (more than 100) then it hangs. “Watch folder” solves the problem.

So, I tried to convert files from this large project via the Watch Folder. Works match faster. But I do not know how to "tie" the converted files to the project. Doing a manual link to 4600 files is a crazy process :-)

    Sorry for my English

If you already have your proxy files created, select all your clips in the project panel, right click, Proxy - Attach Proxies

Then point to your proxy files and click Attach. You may need to make sure the filenames follow the same naming convention.

Check your disks they might be full.

    4 600 source files (533 GB)

For proxies you might need double in disk size.
