    Hi,

This is a legacy thread and the OP has not returned.

When you have a project that is physically damaged, there are few solutions to revive it. You must use a back up that you expressly saved or one from the Auto Save folder. Sorry.

If you have this issue, please create a separate new post to describe your issues. This post is over 5 years old now and may not describe your exact issue.

Note: If you are experiencing this issue with Premiere Pro CC 2016 (11.0 or 11.0.1) on Mac OS and are sharing projects, see the known issues document.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    I found a solution!!

    It would work, if you...

    1. used CC Library in the project,

    2. made some changes on the folder (moving or renaming) which contains the project file.

    3. using Time Machine or Back-up, or remember the EXACT directory of the project file.

I found out that this happens when I moved the folder (which has the project file that I used CC Library in the timeline) or rename the folder.

So if you can remember, or restore the directory EXACTLY SAME, when the project file opened, it will work.

If you moved the folder to the new computer, the computer name and directories should be exactly same.

I restored the folder from the Time Machine, and moved the project file that I can't open & CC Library folder in the restored folder. Bam! It worked.

    Wish you luck!

Well... believe it or not... I had the same issue, and after trying to reinstall the program, to sing out and sign in again on creative cloud... I realised that the problem was caused because I have renamed the folder where the file was located! I have renamed it again to the old name, and the project opened normally!

I found a solution! That was mad stressful.

After receiving the message "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements" on both the original project file and all auto-saved copies, I opened the project file in a trial version of the program called "Project Repair" made by Digital Rebellion. Before clicking "Repair", be sure to CHECK "Strip Effects", "Strip Keyframes" AND "Strip Stablization Data". (The first time I ran the repair, it did not work with these options not checked)

Then click Repair. The file generated by Project Repair opened perfectly in Premiere after that.

I'm experiencing the same error message too - I'm running Premiere CC 8.1 (so, for the record the problem has most certainly not gone away since version 7).  Both the project file and all its recent auto-save files are corrupt, and give me a 'The project could not be loaded...' error message.  I've tried everything that's mentioned in this thread as being a possible solution - Trashed my prefs, trashed my media cache, uninstalled/reinstalled Premiere, repaired the project using Digital Rebellion project repair (which 'repaired' a ton of issues with the project file, but didn't actually get it to work).  Attempting to open the project in a different premiere project also doesn't work - the loading bar stops towards the end and never finishes.

I did update the project file to 8.1, although I used it several times after that with no issues.  The only thing I did prior to this happening is that I trashed my media cache files, although several other projects were not effected by that.

So I'm at a loss.  It seems like there is no solution, and I've just loss over a week of work for absolutely no reason.  Having worked with NLEs for ten years, this is easily the biggest issue I have ever encountered with one.

    Hi Gharkawik,

Sign out of Creative Cloud, close Premiere Pro, sign in to Creative Cloud. See if that will work for you. Link: Activation & Deactivation Help

    Hello Patrick,

Did you finally found a solution to this problem?

I already had the same error twice in the last few months.

I use CS6 (6.0) on MAC with Pegasus R4. I don't do updates anymore after another horrible error, not able to capture anymore.

After every working day, I make a copy of the project on a different 'lacie porsche design' HD. But even that one seemed corrupt one time?

this problem went away when version 7 was released - I'd strongly recommend upgrading to at least v7 if not the 2014 version - major improvements across the board

Very simple fix that worked for me. I Media Managed a feature film on a PC and had to give the project to our colourist who was using resolve 10 on his MAC.

We got the same warning, however after troubleshooting, the following method worked for us:

    1. Open up premiere and create a new project.

    2. in the project bin, import the timeline you are trying to open.

    3. Select either indervidual sequences or the complete project.

    Done!!!

There might be some manual relinking to do but better than not having a project at all.

    Hope it helps. Good Luck.

One possible lifesaver that might help some. If you've exported recently with media encoder, there is a backup of your project file that media encoder creates. You can find it here:

    C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Temp

I had a corrupted project file, but just so happens I had exported through media encoder and was able to find a backup copy of the project file here. Lucky!

    Hope this helps someone,

I found this post because I had this very problem.  I tried all the suggestions here on this thread, including the XML editor.  The XML editor did tell me that my .prproj file was corrupted.  It wasn't "closed."  It simply stopped in the middle of one of the tags about 83000 lines into it.

It looked like the only thing that I could do was rebuild several hours of work, because, for some reason, all of my autosave files were WAY obsolete.  Still not sure why because I had it set to autosave every 5 minutes.

Here's what saved me from hours of work, and I thought I'd pass it on to y'all so maybe it will be a hedge against whatever it is causing these corrupted files:

I work on two computers frequently.  One at home, and one at the office.  (Thank you Adobe for allowing that in your licensing...)  Because of this, I saved the project file in a Dropbox folder (www.dropbox.com).  Dropbox allows me the ability to work on the same project file in both places.  It also is pretty much guaranteed to be backed up as part of the normal operation of Dropbox. Another great thing about Dropbox (and key to this post) is that it saves versions from the last 30 days, so I was able to restore a previous version and continue on with my editing at the most recent save.

it sounds to me as if this strategy would have helped RZeemering in the post above.

Sorry that I don't have a valid way to recover your files, but this may well be a good way to prevent it from happening in the future.

Disclaimer:  I have NO affiliation with Dropbox other than as a customer.  I am simply thrilled that I was able to recover a project file that I truly believe was trashed beyond recovery, so I thought I'd brag on them a little bit.

Thanks, Todd. I recommend everyone get a free account and begin using it in your back up strategy. For those folks using Creative Cloud, you can also back up your project file there too.

Editors must be extremely vigilent in protecting their project files. This is one good way to protect yourself against corruption.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

In my case, I had left the project to render, then come back.  I think one of two or three possible things disruped the project: either the computer went to sleep (I don't think this would really be a problem) or more likely, I was saving to a drive with limited space which caused caused the rendering process to fail.. and maybe this glitch created an issue during the autosave.  The project, the previous version of the project, and all autosaves from that day ended up corrupt. (I don't have Colorista.)
