Question

"The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements" (Premiere 2022)

Hi, I recently exported a project using the "Project Manger" tool as I need to do in my regular workflow. But when I tried to open the "copied" project I got this message: "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements". Can you help me to figure out how to recover it?

I no longer have the auto-saves folder and I've been trying to import (cmd + I) the sequences into a new project, without success so far. Premiere just freezes for hours with no progress (attaching screenshot).

Thanks in advance for your help.

I mostly advice against the use of the Project Manager as a tool for archiving content.

The main issue with this tool is that it only works skin deep. By that I mean that although clips that are included in the project will be copied over, alongside any other assets directly imported to the project folder, including dynamically linked AEP files from After Effects.

However, the assets that were included inside the AEP files (e.g. a logo AI or PSD file) will not be copied over.

Therefore, if you rely upon the Project Manager, you may quickly come to realize that dynamically linked assets will be missing if you re-open the project.

This is why I have decided to create a separate folder for each and every project that I work on. Also, the backup copies of the project are stored in that same folder. As a golden rule, any asset that is used in the project, has to be copied to the folder before importing it inside PPro. For me, it works. I do realize that you may end up including all the bad takes that never made it to the edit just as well, but that is far more acceptable to me than ending up with a red cross of an item gone missing...

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.
