"The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." - Except it wasn't!

Last night I saved a project I've been working on for a couple of days. It's been fine all along. Today, when I went to open it, it's no longer listed in the recently opened files on startup and i get this message:

"The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version."

Except it wasn't! I use Premiere CC and it's been fine all along. I can no longer open it at all...

Any thoughts? Very frustrating!

I had this problem and called support.  Following was my problem and resolution.

I created a project at home on my laptop.  When I got to work and tried to reopen it,  I got this message.  “This project contains a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type”.  Turns out the reason was because my laptop was not connected to the internet. You have to have internet access for Creative Cloud to recognize the program is activated.

I saved the project files on my desktop at work.  That said it wouldn't open because the project was done in a newer version.  Solution: If you have Creative Cloud, there are two versions of Premiere Pro CC.  One is Premiere Pro CC and the other is Premiere Pro CC 2014.  The 2014 version is the newest.   These are two separate applications.  I was getting a message that said it wouldn't open because the project was saved in a newer version on my laptop, PP CC2014.  So I had to login to Creative Cloud and install the 2014 version on my work desktop in order to open the project.

Hope this is helpful.

I, too, am getting the "project was saved in a newer version..." message. Unlike most of the folks dealing with this, I am trying to open the file on the very same computer that created it, in the one and only version of Premiere that I have, or have ever had.  I switched from FCP to Premiere just one month ago, and the version is as current as my computer will support (CC 2014).  The tech tried to tell me that I saved the project in a more recent (2015) version of Premiere that my computer doesn't have, and couldn't have even if I wanted it to.  Impossible.  After several minutes of unanswered questions, the tech finally acknowledged that he or she had never seen this issue.  I'm waiting for a call from a supervisor.  But I'd love any advice in the meantime.

I hopes of helping somebody, I just wanted to mention that I've seen this, too.  I was migrating to a new computer, and the version that Adobe Cloud had me install a version of Premiere that was actually older than what was on my older machine (8.0 on the new machine vs 8.2 on the older machine).

After a reboot on the new machine, the Adobe app checked with the mother-ship, and told me that upgrades were ready and waiting.

As others have reported, the way I got around this way to fully log out of Creative Cloud and than log back in and it saw the 8.2 update.  This fixed my issue.

Hi folks! I've been facing almost the same problem of other members.

We've been using Creative Cloud and some apps for less than one month.

I've been working with Premiere Pro CC and created one project some weeks ago with success.

This week we've noticed that we had an update (Premiere Pro CC 2014) and we've downloaded it. But now I cannot open my first project and every time I try to open it I receive a warning saying: THIS PROJECT WAS SAVED IN A NEWER VERSION OF ADOBE PREMIERE PRO AND CANNOT OPEN IN THIS VERSION.

WHY??? If it's an updated version? I must can open my project in a new version of Premiere Pro, but the warning says exactly the opposite.

Today I've uninstalled everything (CC and the APPs) and installed again, but the problem remains the same. My Creative Cloud and my APPs are up to date.

Please help me! I need to open my project!

Thanks!

Can anyone remember when MS Word moved from .doc to .docx? Newer versions of Word prompted you to decide whether you wanted to save in the newer format or a compatibility file. That went on for around 4 years. Yet Adobe can have customers leave their desk, come back to it and find the same file won't open on the same computer and it's the customers fault. No question the most passive aggressive product support on the market...

What happens when you need to transfer between versions one month apart? Nothing. Your problem.

I'm awfully glad I didn't pay for this software as a teacher but I still feel ripped off for the hours wasted trying to get back work.

How about an update that factors in compatibility? The file I can't use on two computers with CC 2014 has one audio file and one video file and some cuts. That's it. Nothing complicated, except for the fact it's on an Adobe product. FUCK'S SAKE GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.

Hello,

I have similar problem.

Create a project with Premiere Pro CC 2014 four months ago on a pc. Now I try to open it in another pc but already I can not open.

I got the message "This project is saved in a newer version of adobe premiere pro and can not be opened in this version"

I installed Premiere Pro CC and I have the same problem

What I can do?

Install CC14?

Check the version you are using in About Adobe Premiere Pro.

For some reason you cannot open 8.2 in 8.0

but you can in 8.0.1 or 8.1.

If you want one of those update download them from here:

Thanks, Ann

I wish that worked for me! Seems to have worked for other people. I've been going through troubleshooting on this thread: Re: Speedgrade Backwards-Incompatible w/ Premiere CC 2014 8.1

Folks with similiar issues might find a solution that will work for them on that thread. No resolution for me yet.

jesuislepop is right. Update checks were semi-disabled from doing that app support file hack on the other machine. I had to fix that file or simply delete it then reinstall CC app manager then reinstall the apps. It said up to date but was not. I forgot to come back here and post my solution but it was on the forums here somewhere actually.

had to fix the hacked file that controls update checks*

for clarity

I just had the same problem, think I may have a fix for you.

Apparently Adobe CC sometimes misses out updates.

Both my machines said they were "up to date" with the latest version of premiere.

Turns out one machine had version 8.0.1 (21)

and the other machine had 8.2.0 (65)

I found this page with direct links to download different versions of premiere:

http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2014-updates-links-mac.html

You may be able to use that to get both computers synced up on the same version.

Hope that helps!
