Question

There seems to be an intermittent memory leak in my computer. Is my computer with a AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT CPU, GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, and 64 GB of RAM enough to edit my 90 minute feature film shot in XAVC S-I 10-bit 4:2:2 S-Log3/S-Gamut3.Cine?

I am currently editing a 2-hour-long feature film. We shot the film in XAVC S-I 10-bit 4:2:2 S-Log3/S-Gamut3.Cine.  There seems to be an intermittent memory leak in my computer, where the available memory will spike to 99% usage, and premiere will crash.  My computer has an AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT 12-Core Processor CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, and 64 GB of RAM. Is my computer not powerful enough? Is there a bottleneck somewhere? Or is there something wrong with my settings/premiere?

I’m experiencing very similar issues after upgrading to v26.

Both Premiere and After Effects have become noticeably unstable. Things start off fine, but performance gradually degrades during normal editing and then it crashes. It really feels like some kind of memory buildup or leak over time rather than a one-off issue.

The other infuriating part is what happens after a crash. My otherwise stable machine drops to what feels like 2 FPS, with the mouse cursor barely responsive. When I eventually manage to shut it down, I’ll often get a CPU over-temperature warning on reboot. The odd thing is that temps seem to sit around 65 to 70°C, and the system behaves completely normally again after a restart, until Adobe is launched and the whole cycle repeats.

I’m running a high-spec system (128GB RAM, Ryzen 9 5900X, dual RTX 3090), and this same setup was stable on previous versions, so the issue appears to be specific to v26.

Right now it feels like you’re editing knowing a crash is coming, just not when.

Has anyone else seen similar behavior in 26.2? Any known fixes, workarounds, or acknowledgement from Adobe would be appreciated.

    Hi @AlexJamesV95,

Thanks for the post. I appreciate the information you’ve given so far.

What kind of footage is this and from which camera? Does the same thing happen with a new project? Is this a new project or one you updated from v.25?

This additional info may be helpful in solving this issue.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi @Kevin-Monahan ,

The footage information is in my original post. And we shot it on the Sony FX3.

It’s intermittent, but I did try opening a new project and the memory leak started, spiking my memory to 99% usage and crashed premiere.

This is a project I started from v25 and I haven’t updated to v26 yet. I am currently using v25.6.5

Let me know if you need any more info.

    Thank you!
