new user to Premiere. i am a bit confused by the interface. I load in footage during the first page. But after on the left side it shows preview rolls of the footage i imported. Yet when i drag it to the timeline it is not playing when i press play. Is there a setting or something with graphics i can check? It does allow me to preview the timeline frame by frame.

As Paul Murphy has indicated, if you share a screen shot (Print Screen) of your desktop we can understand what you are looking at.

Also, can you give some details of your setup and footage you are using and have imported?.

eg: - Mac or Windows PC

Version of Premiere Pro

Type of Video / HD or 4K etc

Codec - H264/H265 ..other?

What are your sequence settings for your timeline ? Sequence Menu/Sequence Settings

If you double click on one of the items you have imported - does it play in the media Source window?

If you are new to Premiere have you checked out the tutorials as well ? :

I've been using Premiere a few years but still learn stuff every time I look at some of these !.

This is a very common issue, it's really broad and it is hard to give an exact solution that is going to work for everyone, you could check your playback settings go to Preferences> Playback. and make sure it all runs as desired. Also make sure if you're using a GPU (Graphics processing unit) to have it enabled in the software. I have had a similar issue in the past over past 5 years I have been using Premiere Pro. You could try pre-rendering the footage in Premiere so it runs smooth.

Hope this helps 🙂

To help troubleshoot, could you please share a screenshot of your Premiere Pro application window? This will give more context and help identify the issue.
