Timeline footage appears “Red” after 24.1 Update

Essentially the problem is after my premeire pro updated today, whenever I go to add footage into my timeline and even when I go back and open older project files before this update (where this issue didn't exist) suddenly my timeline / sequence is red and things such as my adjustment layers aren't working at all.

I've never had to pre-render anything before, especially not simply dragging a clip from my project bin to my timeline sequence, this is very frustrating.

there's another Version of premiere pro that's selectable (v 23.6.2) where everything works normally as it did prior to today, adjustment layers and everything are working.

does anyone know how to fix this issue with the most current version of premeire pro?

also... I may have missed it, but I don't see where you've listed your hardware, Mac/Pc, etc...

If you have a small original clip that turns your timeline red and you can upload it to Google drive, etc... I'll take a look and see what happens here.

Trash preferences  and media cache.

Make new project and import old one.

See how that goes

Hi @Ajoni5CD5

I saw your message. Do you mean that your clips are offline? Let us know.

Thanks,
Kevin

Yeah, I'm importing all of my clips straight from an external hard Drive. After this update when I import them them the timeline bar is yellow like normal but the moment i start trimming and chopping the footage it turns red and needs to be Rendered. I edit music videos and its never done that before this update and its definitely hindering my process.

Hi @Ajoni5CD5,

Thanks for the notes. I hope we can help you. Where is this media from? Is it H.264? Let us know. Merely trimming a clip should not throw the red render bar in your timeline if you formerly had a yellow bar. If trashing preferences is not working, you might try transcoding the media to a standard codec (ProRes LT or the like) before editing with it.

Small thing: you say you are "importing" clips to the timeline. What you are describing is "editing" clips to the timeline. "Importing" is only relevant to adding the clips to the Project panel. Editing is the act of placing clips to the Timeline. There are two essential ways you edit clips to the Timeline: an Insert edit (which moves other clips further down the timeline) and an Overwrite edit (which records over other clips in that place in the timeline). Dragging clips to the timeline are an Overwrite edit by default, however, it is possible to drag clips as an Insert edit, if you press a modifier key.

I hope that clears up the nomenclature and technique. Many people are unaware of the Insert edit, which is kind of a shame! If you need more clarification on that, please let us know.

Thanks,

Kevin
