Timeline Rendering - What am I missing? Render stack requires constant rendering PP20 14.8 Build 39

Timeline has master clip stack:
Video 6 - Text Motion graphics (text does not update, another problem, missing font, can't pull from adobe)
Video 5 - Dynamic Link - Roto Clip from After Effects (many crashes using Roto 2 round trip)
Video 4 - Background graphic or text
Video 3 - Dynamic Link - Clip edited in adobe to extend backdrop (motionarry)
Video 2- Duplicate of master
Video 1- Master Clip.
After selecting an In and Out for the clip and rendering in and out, the clip renders, all but 1 and 2 are turned on. If I turn off Video 6 the clip no longer is "rendered" and stutters on playback.
Do I have to turn on and off each track and render one at a time if I want to do that during editing?
The render says video 1 of 2 or 1 of 3 ect when in rendering.
Why do I have to render every single time I turn off and on the track eye/view?
