Timeline stops responding actively after dragging two video clips in

Whenever I drag more than one video file (mp4) into a project, or even create a project WITH more than one video file, the timeline stops responding like it should. It only updates whenever I move the scroll bar. It's specifically after I drag in a second video file when the timeline just stops working entirely. I've tried to force restart the app, create new projects, etc.

Any help with this? Or is it just a computer issue? My computer is rather low end, it's just a run of the mill laptop running windows 10, nothing special or anything. This is Premiere Pro 2024, if that matters.

Ouch. That's a 7 year old 4 core CPU, out of support date.

Going forward it's simply going to be painful to use. These apps always take advantage of the greater power of newer hardware, and that makes older hardware "less performant".

I use mp4 files that I record and 'remux' from mkv files into mp4 files using OBS Studio. I have it's max framerate set at 60, aspect ratio 16:9, 1920x1080. Please tell me if there's anything else you need.

I should've noted that I've done projects with multiple video files before, on this computer, and they've worked just fine. This just started happening recently.

Hardware data is crucial. Please give OS/RAM/GPU and also the full details on the media you work with, format/codec, framesize and framerate, made by what.
