Question

Timeline unresponsive when Project Library is in icon view?

As soon as import more than 2 clips of video or audio the timeline becomes unresponsive when the project library is set to icon view. I can't scrub or select anything-- I have to constantly toggle between icon and list view.

How is this even a bug? Does anyone know any other way to solve this issue? I am on the latest version.

I think I have a solution for you. As you said, change to list view in the resources bin. In the upper left corner of the timeline, toggle the button "Linked Selection". Then retoggle that button. Then change the resource bin back to icon view.

I dont know why, but this totally worked. Running like normal now.

GFX,

This is an ancient thread. Glad you found a solution, though. Back this project up soon, as it sounds like it could be a corruption going on there.

Thanks,
Kevin

Got the same exact issue in Premiere Pro 20, 14.3.1 Build 45. Win 10, Gtx 1070. Switching from list to icon view instantly spikes Premiere's CPU usage to ~45% and never goes down.

Please log this on the UserVoice forum, as that way it goes directly both to the engineers and also collated to the upper managers who determine budgets.

Hello Same issue here, it happens very often, timeline is unresponsible (cannot select, zoom or cut), but all other windows are working (Source monitor etc).

I have Win10, however this also happened on my Win7 set up (just got up graded). I have the latest Première Pro.

files used: WAV audio, two Video files (one mov one mp4). the original files are on an external drive. There are no effects and the issue appears at launch of Première.

Cameras: Panasonic Lumix GH4 (25FPS, 50MB, FHD), Olympus OMD EM5 mark ii, MOV, 25 FPS, FHD.

sound: Zoom H5 multi wav file...

switching the source monitor to list view fixes the issue (and thank you for this fix I found on this page, finally I can use premiere when this bug happens).

Exactly the same problem.   Gogled, found this post, couldn't believe it would fix it but it did.

Adobe, is anyone listening ?!

We have the Same Problem, get your act together Adobe. This did not start happening until the software updated itself a few months back. But seriously, telling us that you can not replicate the problem when several of us are having this issue, is well.... lazy.

I use Premiere daily  ... hours. I've never had this issue. I am in constant communication with quite a few pros and serious prosumers, who have never mentioned this.

And given the only thread on this issue has a very few posts, almost all over a year ago on a now outdated version  ... it's a very, very rare issue.

Which doesn't make it any less annoying for you r anyone else with this behavior, it just makes it a ton harder TO repro and fix.

Which version of Premiere, what media, what effects, and what hardware are you using? Provide useful information please ...

I have the exact same problem. After switching from Final Cut, I almost went back because of this! (I spent about 3 hours trying to fix this!!)

Thankfully I can switch to list and its working for now!

Same issue here. Build v12.0.1 build 69. Running Windows 10. Luckily, I found this thread, because the program had become unusable when the project panel was in icon view. In list view, things appear to run as expected.

Same issue here, v12.1.2 build 69. Timeline became unresponsive and it's GUI only refreshes to current state when main menu is used. then stays in that state until next main menu use, no matter if you zoom in/out, play, select or do whatever in it. This issue goes away when the project window is switched to list view.

This issue is known since April. Is this supposed to be Adobe's so-called software as a service model? Laughable.

Hello,

I know I am not mongodargon, but I have this same issue. It's a fresh install of CC2018 V12.1.1(build10)

Putting 1 item (audio or video) into my timeline works fine, adding a second freezes the whole thing. Switching to list view fixes the issue, but when i turn it back to icon view it freezes instantly. I can record this on video if needed. Is there any other information you need?

Hi mongodargon,

Sorry for the trouble. What is the exact version number of Premiere Pro? Steps: FAQ: How to find the exact version of Premiere Pro you're using?

There is a new Premiere Pro update available, version 12.1. Please update using Creative Cloud & check the issue.

Thanks,

Vidya

Hi Vidya,

Thanks for the response.

I just updated this morning. I am on 12.1.0 (build 186).

I can't reproduce this in version 12.0.1 on Windows 10 Pro (1709).

All I have in my Library are a couple graphics, but being in icon view doesn't disrupt timeline behavior at all.

I haven't heard of this problem before.

You may want to try re-setting preferences by holding down (ctrl/alt/shift) on Windows or (cmd/option/shift) on Mac  while the applications is starting to re-set the preferences. Hope this helps.
