Transcoding 4096 x 1712 footage so there's no letterbox on a 3840 x 2160 timeline

What is the workflow of transcoding 4096 x 1712 footage 2.35 aspect ratio so that it will fit on a 3840 x 2160 (1.77 or 16x9 aspect ratio) timeline without the letterbox?

I tried importing the clips into a bin > loading them on a 3840 x 2160 timeline and resizing to rid the letterbox > then, using the Project Manager, transcoded them as individual clips.  It didn't work - the clips did not keep the new resolution size nor the resizing.  This info is retained only in the project file generated by doing this Project Manager transcode workflow.

I was hoping not to have to do this in Resolve where the transcodes do keep these parameters - resolution change and the 26.7% resize.    Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Premiere Pro's workflow is to de-bayer on the fly.

If wanting to proportionally scale up the 4096 x 1712 source footage to 2160 and then crop to 3840, I'd batch transcode the clips in After Effects where the "Detail-preserving Upscale" effect can be used for the proportional 126.2% upscale before the 93.75% crop along the horizontal.

Adding several clips to an After Effects project and creating a Composition for each one is fast, but a free 3rd party script for resizing Compositions will make changing the Comp width and height up for each Comp much faster.  Then apply Detail-preserving Upscale to one clip and then copy and paste that, one at a time, to the rest.

This could be done a little quicker if a 3840-by-2160 string-out works for later use of the footage.

Thank you Warren.  I forgot about the AE Detail preserving Upscale fx.  Appreciate the details given in your workflow on how to do this.

If you want individual clips, Render and Replace might give you what you want.

Hi Ann -

Thank you for your reply.  Render and Replace was something I tried but unfortunately the rendered clips played back the same as the orignal clips with the letter box in the source monitor.  Only on the timeline did they keep the resize that I placed on them to rid the letterbox before doing Render and Replace.
