Transcribing and captioning video with multiple languages

I have a video in both Japanese and English.

Since Premiere can only transcribe one language at a time, I transcribed the whole thing as English. Then I put in in/out points for the Japanese sections and transcribed the first one. When I created captions from the transcription, PP created a second caption track, which is fine.

But then I had the second Japanese section. I put in in/out points and again retranscribed in Japanese. However, when I went to create captions, there is this message:

Multiple caption tracks enabled
To view and edit, please select a clip or clips from the caption track.

I have no idea how to proceed. I have the clip selected in the sequence, but the message remains. What does PP want me to do?

    @georgek37401698,

    You want both enabled, so you can see both in the Program monitor. Just click on a caption from one track or the other, and then you will see that track in the text panel.

    If that doesn’t make sense, post a screenshot.

    Thanks, Stan. I’m not sure if that answers my question because I gave up and went in another direction. I moved all Japanese content to track 2 and then re-transcribed all sections at once. This way avoided the problem that I discussed above. What you explain here I figured out on my own--that you have to select not the caption track (which you have no way of doing, actually), but one of the actual captions.
