Transcript keeps jumping around

As Kevin says, we need a bit more info to tell what you are doing. Some “jumping around” is to be expected. What version are you working in? This can affect this behavior.

Create a test sequence (with one of your transcribed source clip is fine), and setup so you have the timeline and program monitor on screen, and are in the Text panel/transcript tab. For this purpose, it does not matter whether you have “follow active monitor” on or off, as long as you have the “show program monitor transcript” icon (the one on the right) active. I think it is better to turn ON auto-scrolling. All that does is, if your playback etc results in the transcript going off screen, it will scroll to show it.

Hit the spacebar to play the timeline, and the transcript should highlight the current word. Click on different locations in the timeline, and the transcript will locate to that section. 

Add a marker and open the marker dialogue. The transcript jumps back to the beginning. That is not expected behavior but has been that way for a while and is still to be fixed.

It may or may not matter, but look at the menu at the top, Sequence → Selection follows playhead: is that selected? Also, do you have a search word in the Transcript search box?

Now, with that context, what type of jumps are you seeing? What do you do, and what happens?

Thanks for the question. That definitely doesn’t sound normal. When you say the transcript is “jumping around,” do you mean:

• the playhead keeps moving?

• the transcript panel scrolls unexpectedly?

• or the text selection itself changes while editing?

That may help narrow down what’s actually causing the behavior.

A couple things I’d try next:

• Make sure you’re editing from the Sequence transcript and not the Source transcript.

• Try closing and reopening the Text panel.

• Save, close, and reopen the project to see if the transcript indexing settles down.

• If you have multiple sequences open, try working with only one sequence tab open at a time.

• Try duplicating the sequence and see whether the duplicate behaves differently.
