Question

Transcriptions Disappearing Intermittently

I am working as an Assistant Editor on a feature documentary. My editor is in another state with a RAID drive and I have a mirrored RAID at my work station. We are connected via a computer-to-computer sync server, Resilio. We are editing in an Adobe Productions set up and it seems like when I generated transcriptions in the project, they occasionally disappear when my editor tries to view them. However, they appear on my end just fine. We are both working in Premiere Pro (v) 24.6.1

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with our Workspace settings either.

I think it may have something to do with me having created the transcriptions originally and there being a lag in the compatability between the project and server, which is syncing constantly, but I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and if so, were you able to remedy it?

I have a project that I just converted to a Production and now all the transcriptions that I had done in the old project disappear as soon as I edit with them. It is infuriating.

@Corinne33589803zlfq,

The proxy problem I referred to was present in version 24.0.0 and fixed by 24.6. So that alone should not be an issue. But you are transcribing with both proxies and originals, and someone accessing via productions with only proxies locally experiencing the loss of transcription while you are offline.

Anyone else out there with this workflow? And working or not?

@Corinne33589803zlfq,

An issue has been proxies where the original is not on-line or similar. I don't recall which issues were fixed and when.

I'm not using productions, and am limited on what I can test at the moment.

Your observations seem very useful to tracking this down.

Oh that is interesting! Since we are using a computer-to-computer server
and I do not have access to fibre-wire internet, the RAW files will
probably never actually sync to my editor's RAID drive. He has the proxies
but we approximate it will take about 7-35 days (lol) for the RAW files to
appear on his RAID, but since we continue to shoot new footage, the sync
for the RAW footage file keeps extending its estimated completed sync time.
The RAW files are "online" for me because I received them from the shuttle
drives in order to make proxies, but they are likely appearing as offline
for my editor.

That being said, he can still hear that the clips have audio but I guess
that is the audio attached to the proxies?

Hi @Corinne33589803zlfq -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.

What are your computer specs?

I agree with Stan it sounds like something is not syncing correctly.

When you say occasionally can you think of any reproducible steps where this happens?

Can you try generating your transcriptions and then zip and email the test project to your editor and see if they can view the transcript?
Sorry for the frustration.

@Corinne33589803zlfq,

The transcriptions are saved in the project file. So there might be a delay in syncing the files. I wonder if editing a sequence could result in a change that makes the transcription unavailable.

I note that you are working in 24.6.1.

I don't recall this being reported as a problem, but there have been reports of transcripts disappearing. I would look for workarounds to minimize the problem.

I would look for what conditions might create the problem. For example, is it only if you are both working in the same sequence? Does it happen only when you are both actively editing?

I would also look for what might help restore the transcription. For example, does it require exiting and reopening the project? Or closing premier?

Hey Stan!

Thank you for responding so quickly! I agree that I think it is a sync
issue. What is interesting is that it seems to happen when he is working in
the project, but I am not/haven’t opened the project in a while. And once I
open the project to check out the transcripts he says are missing, they
reappear on his end.

He is considering updating to premiere 2025 if the problem persists but I
don’t think it is an issue with the version of the project. However, he is
more experienced with remote editing than I am - but the issue is we are
using Resilio and my internet connection, while hardwired in, is not fiber
wire which is what they recommend when using Resilio (fibre internet is not
available in the area where my editing station is just yet unfortunately).

Not only do the transcriptions disappear on his end, when he tries to
retranscribe the clips, it says there isn’t any audio to transcribe in the
source file.

I know it is an iMac, potentially a 2015 but I am not in front of it now so
I will have to get back to you on that. She is getting up there in age and
I am afraid her GPU/RAM can’t really keep up with the project we are
working on but she is doing alright for now. 🙂
