Transition settings, and copying them

I've searched for answers on this but not found answers that fix my issue.

1. Insert a transition between two clips, it defaults to start at cut. Can I set this (by default) to center at cut, if so, how?

2. I read that you can copy paste a transition - fair enough, here's what I did. Add a transition, set to centre at cut, select all following clips, Ctr + V to paste into the other gaps, instead of pasting the copied center at cut, I get the default start at cut, why is that?

Thank you Peru Bob. I will read that. I just picked one clip and pasted twice at the end to play with. I thought it was long enough, how can you tell if a transition will not work other than it goes, start at clip?

This now sorted!

A transition will set itself centre at cut if both clips have sufficient handles.

If the transition is set Start to Cut it means the clip has no handles indicated by the white triangle

Hi Ann. My clips do show a handle/triangle just like your screenshot.

I have three clips, I put a crossfade between 1 and 2, it defaults to Start at Cut, I change it to Center at cut. CTRL + C, then CTRL + V between clips 2 and 3. Bang it pastes in as Start at cut.

What am I missing.

The triangle means that is the end frame of the clip ... therefore, you have no 'handles' to be used for the transition.

Most actual transitions need at least enough frames of 'cut' clip to match the time in the transition. So if you have cut one second off the front of a clip, and one second off the preceeding clip, your transition could be up to a second. Because of having "handles".

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
