Trouble opening a Premiere Pro project generated in Premiere Pro CC

Hi all,

For the past few months I have been using a Premiere Pro Creative Cloud license on my PC to edit videos and export them as .mp4 files. Through my grad school program I just got a hard copy license of the Creative Suite 6 Master Collection, and after uninstalling all the Creative Cloud programs I installed Premiere Pro CS6 from this new license.

Although I opened and edited them earlier today using the CC version of Premiere, I am now unable to open these projects under the new hard copy license. The error I get is simply: "The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened."

I'm happy to provide more information if there's anything I missed, and any help resolving this would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Justin

Given the situation, you might want to try using XML as an interchange format to get these newer projects to open in CS6.

To do this yourself you'd need to reinstall the version of Premiere CC in which the projects were created, then open each project and use the "File > Export > Final Cut Pro XML..." command, to export the project as an XML file. Then back in Premiere CS6, import those XML files... assuming your project/sequences are not immensely complex then hopefully it will open them up without issue. Note that not everything will necessarily pass through the process, but your basic edit structure, motion parameters etc should come through fine.

If you'd like, I could create the XML files for you, to save you the hassle of reinstalling CC ... you'd obviously have to send me the project files you need to 'translate' tho... feel free to send me a private message if you want to try that.

    Cheers

Thanks for the response Andy! I wouldn't be surprised if I was hitting a backwards compatibility snag as suggested by John, but this solution worked for me. Thankfully my sequences were very simple so I didn't lose anything in the process. Much appreciated!

Premiere Pro project files are not backwards compatible

You "should" be able to open a CS6 project file in CC, but you may NOT open a CC project file in CS6
